Anna Welsh
Hey Bill! Happy birthday and many more to come. You were a great inspiration to me as a runner and a coach. I remember so, so many great things and some wonderful times we shared, professionally and socially (some of those seeding meeting did last quite awhile at the Road House) but I gotta tell you; nothing or no one can replace that unmistakable voice screaming from the infield, "C'mon Charlie" or "C'mon Marty!
God Bless & Happy Birthday....
Zac
Dear Mr. Welsh (Bill),
I have always known you as a legendary person when I use to run against Charlie in high school. When I moved to staten Island I found out that you were a legendary runner also. It is my honor and pleasure to wish you a wonderful Birthday Bash. You are truely an inspiration to the entire running community.
Dear Bill,
It is a pleasure working with you all these years on the SITRAC board. You have been a true friend, mentor, and an inspiration. Your running achievements are legendary, just as your coaching successes. It is an honor to be at your party. Happy 80th Birthday and many more years of good health. Can't wait to run on the Indoor Track with you.
Bill! Your fame has spread even as far and wide as Luxembourg. I am sure Josi Barthel has heard of you. I have some slightly used golf balls that I am willing to exchange for good jokes. Happy Birthday! Al.
Dear Bill,
Happy 80th Birthday! It has been a pleasure seeing you at the races and at the Central Jersey Road Runners meetings.
You are truly an inspiration to all of us runners as we grow older. Thank you for your cheerful smile every time I want to take your picture. Sorry that we cannot attend your birthday party, we will be out of town that weekend. I hope you have a wonderful day.
Take care. Rachel
Bill; You introduced me to running, van cortland park, millrose games and a lifetime of conditioning. Congradulations on reaching the 80 milemarker; as always i am 10 paces behind. Thanks for being a wonderful teacher and great coach.
Hi Bill, It was only a few years that we knew each other but you left a life long influence upon me. do you remember February 3, 1963? We ran a 20 miler at McCombs Dam Park and you were gracious enouch to run by my shoulder and pull me along for 16 of the 20 miles. i was just a kid but ran a time that day that, today, i cannot beleive i ran. then those lonely laps around Silver Lake with Glen Cole. Happy Birthday Bill and thanks for being there. Frank
VERY SPECIAL THANKS TO SIAC, LORRAINE LETTIERI AND SITRAC, GEORGE KOCHMAN, CSI, MINDSAW, AND THE HYNES FAMILY FOR THEIR GENEROUS CONTRIBUTIONS AND ASSISTANCE!!!
SEE YOU ALL ON JULY 4TH AND 5TH!
Mr. Welsh was a great influence on me in high school when I did shotput and discus. But when I started working with Vic Navarra and the NYC Marathon, he was a collegue. A great guy to listen to with great stories and he was just a good guy all around. You are deserved of all your accolades and dare I say worship. You are a man we will never forget
Bill Welsh was and always be a Dealer!!
He is the "Big Fish" of dealers of lifelong character and inspiration!!
Once he gets you hooked your an addict forever, and i fortunately was one of his last New Dorp customers.. He got me on the way out of that joint.
Little did i know or have any idea that his "nice guy" persona and "Free" advice, stories, and rides around in the car with the hurdles sticking out of the trunk would rub off on myself.
He is the major reason i have become a similar dealer in my own life..
Lastly, this man is no fool.. He will live till 105 because he loves a party. It is things like this event that keep this man in business of getting people hooked over and over!!!
I look forward to his 100th gathering :)
I love this man..
Coach Welsh
Mike
Mr. Welsh (or Bill) as I can now call you).
You were, and are, my teacher, coach (at times), and friend. All the best for the next 80 years. I think I can finally beat you in a 30 yd. dash (MAYBE)
All those years and now I find out it may have been from the red wine.
At ant rate, I hope to see you on the 5th.
Bill, I had the unfortunate luck of graduating from Blessed Sacrament before going to Augies - one year after Jack Fonss did the same thing. You were hoping for another miracle. That's like betting on Secretariat and seeing one of Franzrebs trail ponies show up at the starting gate. But, you cheered me on just as much as you did the other 150 guys who finished in front of me every race. Jeez, that's gotta say something about you. If I'm still breathing, I'll see you on the 5th.
Hi Bill I see there is an 80 on this web site with your name. I realized this must have been your personal best in the 440. I just never knew you were that fast!!! Happy Birthday with lots of love. Frank Darzano
Dear Coach Sorry we couldn't make the party yesterday. I'm sure that it was a great time. Thank you for being such a caring influence on my life. Wishing you Many more miles, many more birthdays !

Happy Birthday Bill! I am glad that you are still having fun and that I made your top ten. You will be happy to know that I am starting to compete in the Masters level field events! Started working out with the University of Wisconsin team. I will keep you posted.
All the best,
Steve
Happy Belated Birthday, Mr. Welsh, aka: Uncle Bill!
We are sorry to have missed this great day but know you and your family are in our hearts. As to whether you have contributed to my life, success, and happiness? I can only say, if it were not for you, I wouldn't be where I am today. Many, Many Thank yous. Art(y) Salisbury
You have always been a great coach and a great friend. You were a second dad to me when I desperately needed a moral compass. You have always been there for us. You got me thru my 1st marathon ['77 jersey shore] by talking to me all the way. I'll never forget it. You jokingly said I was your 60 and 100 yd. dash man, who you couldn't get to run a 220, and now runs marathons. May God bless you and your family.
Mr Welsh, sorry I missed your 80th birthday. You're a great couch and competitor. I'll never forget that rainy Oct. night 1968 no one showed for the work out except you and I.You could have gone home and called it off, but you stayed and clocked my 660's in the rain, and also remember how you kicked my----at Clove Lakes at the Run for Fun.Julian
